Several teachers are having problems accessing the Gradebook at home. I was unable to access it from my computers at home and found that the steps below corrected the problem.
The primary problem appears to be that access from home appears to require the newest version of Java, the programming language that the program uses, compared to the version needed over the network from school. Using Windows Vista or 7 also can mean taking additional steps to be sure it will work from home.
If you are getting a Page Not Found error or a 403 Forbidden error try updating your version of Java and see if that will correct the problem. Here are the steps to update Java.
1. Go to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and click on the link to download the version based on your Windows version. You can also click on the Verify Now link to check and see if you have the latest version. It will also provide instructions on how to remove older versions.
2. Even if you have the latest version, reinstalling may correct errors you are experiencing. In a worst case scenario you can remove all versions of Java using the Add/Remove Programs option in your Control Panel and then reinstall Java.
3. If you are running Windows 7 and have the 64 bit version then you should install both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Java.
4. Once you have installed the new version of Java, reboot your computer and check to see if the Gradebook will load.
